One 4chan anon posted a picture of his flabby body, stating that it was the side effect of the SSRI medication (a class of very commonly prescribed antidepressants) he takes, and elicited a surprisingly insightful response from another anon who have also dealt depression:
As someone who has suffered from depression long term, I’ve learned that the “medical” fields of psychiatry and psychology are a complete sham.
They’re simply an illusion of help for something that is externally helpless in an attempt to exploit desperate and vulnerable people. Therapy is simply someone charging $100+ per hour to sit in a chair and listen to you. Anti-depressants don’t treat the true nature of depression and are largely unscientific, randomly handed out and dangerous.
Depression is a very unique disease of the mind where it is self-fulfilling. Depression will constantly want to feed itself by making you do things that make you depressed. It will make socializing harder, exercising harder and focusing harder. And with modern tech that promotes escapism, it really makes it easier than ever to revert into a depressive state.
The first thing you want to do is to go to a family doctor and have a blood test done. Tell the doctor how you feel and that you want to check and make sure thing like thyroid, hormonal levels, etc are within normal range.
The second thing you want to do is force yourself to be active in some capacity. The best way to do this is through a job. You need to get out, get sunlight, and keep your mind off your problems whilst not mindlessly passing time away.
The third thing you want to do is think about what you want your purpose in life to be. Every man needs one and depression tricks you into thinking you’re worthless, bad at everything and don’t have one. So you’ve given up before you try anything. It doesn’t need to be a grand purpose either. Where do you want to see yourself in 5 years?
You’re posting this in self defeat, but you have a lot of years to turn things around, and I see an intact body with potential. The shitty fact is that you need to start fighting for your fucking life right now.
