A chilling analysis a 4chan anon posted on the sequence of protocols that propaganda goes through:
Liberalism isn’t about being right, it’s about people using manipulation to get what they want. There’s actually a surprisingly reliable sequence to it as you continue to not let yourself get cowed into submission:
1. Shaming
2. Bullying
3. Recruitment
4. PityShaming is the most powerful manipulation tool. The best way to break someone down is to make them feel ashamed of disobedience. “Coward” is a great start but coming up with unique buzzwords to affix to wrongspeakers can go a long way too! Shaming has the spirit of aloofness so it’s also a good starting point.
Bullying is the fallback from shaming. The attitude shifts from “I don’t care” to “I’m angry”. Where shaming holds that you should be embarrassed over your position, bullying holds that you should be frightened of maintaining it. Raised voice, more direct insults and succinct language (“FUCK you”/”How DARE you”/”SHUT UP”) are common.
Recruitment happens when the target can’t be scared easily. The attitude shifts from “I’m angry” to “I need help”. Sympathizers are contacted to lend their voice, the target is isolated, often large crowds and mobs are stirred. Authority figures such as employers and police may be contacted. The story fed to recruits is typically a misrepresentation, but willing recruits will grasp the signal that the misrepresentation is to be consumed as truth.
Pity is the final stage as “I need help” turns to “stop it you’re hurting me!”. The insults will center around the target’s cruelty, the harshness of the circumstances for the manipulator, and ultimately how by maintaining the wrongspoken position, the target is actually causing harm.
Remember to stay vigilant – the manipulator’s purpose is to break others down the way one might break a horse for work. There is no benefit to engaging a manipulator as their win condition is your servitude and your win condition is your freedom from being accessed by them.
A healthy mind says, “NO.”
This was written about 10 years ago, before the beginning of the madness that ensued in the years that followed, where the anon’s criticism was still directed at “liberalism.” In the years that came after, the US had gone through the BLM protests, Covid and its subsequent vaccinations, as well as strange gender based shenanigans in general.
Every one of these movements have followed the recipe this anon listed above. Shaming for not aligning with these movement’s positions, followed by threats. In the case of the covid vaccination, the threats often came from institutions that people relied on for employment.
All of these movements aggressively tried to recruit members and had no qualms with misrepresenting information. Lastly, “this is my survival!” often gets paraded as justifications for the harm members of these movements have inflicted on others.
It’s truly chilling how accurate this anon was, 10 years down the road.
“In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is… in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”
