A post on social media recently shows the following sight – a group of birds laying comatose on a sidewalk:
Further clarification revealed that the location is Poland. The birds in question are waxwings, who happens to be drunk from the fermented rowan berries they’ve been gorging on.
If a single cat were to wander by, it could spell disaster for the entire group of drunk birds.
For what’s it’s worth, though, I do think it speaks volumes about the people of Poland that the birds can be drunk on the sidewalk as the picture shows. Most likely the local people in the area do keep an eye out for the birds while in this vulnerable state and do protect them from other wildlife nearby.
