China is undergoing enormous economic hardship right now with massive unemployment; college students graduating to a non-existent job market, 35+ year old job hunters facing age discrimination, and so on.
Amidst it all, an unemployed Chinese man had an epiphany.
He used to work in Africa, had African coworkers, and likely supervised them. He looked down on them, thinking that they were a lazy and inefficient people who took three men to do the work of one; to make things worse, the workers often went about their tasks while laughing and socializing with one another.
He took pride in being able to do the work of two or three men on his own. This was how he was raised.
But then he was let go and had the chance to look at his own nation, and realized that it was his own society that was crooked. His fellow countrymen regularly took on the workload of two or three people at once. They out-competed one another. The losers were left jobless. The ‘winners’ got to work themselves to exhaustion. The only ones who benefited were the boss men or the corporations who employed the regular people, who did not even like the workers and fired them the first chance they got.
The unemployed Chinese man realized the Africans were the smarter ones, after all.
