Tale of 7 Dogs Escaping from Dog Meat Truck

A heartwarming tale from China about a group of dogs who escaped from a dog meat truck.

On a highway in Changchun, China, passing drivers captured a heartbreaking scene: seven dogs of different breeds marching in an orderly line against the March traffic.

The viral video led to an incredible discovery. The dogs were not strays, but “neighbors” from three local homes, who are used to playing and roaming together in the same community, that had been stolen by dognappers and were being transported in a cage.

After escaping by chewing through their enclosure, the group embarked on a 17-kilometer journey home. During the trek, the oldest Golden Retriever and a strong Labrador shielded the group from traffic, while the others protected an injured German Shepherd that was limping. They huddled for warmth and licked each other’s wounds, refusing to leave one another.

Concerned citizens tried to guide the dogs to safety, but were ignored. They did continue monitoring the situation and learned more about it.

The dogs miraculously returned home safe and sound back on March 19th, after their owners have all but given up searching for them. This raised calls for stronger animal protection laws among Chinese citizens. Official Chinese media insist that the dogs were not captured by dognappers, but simply wandered off from their homes together.
