A cat named Zoey was surrendered to a shelter with a simple note attached – “Don’t take away Zoey’s bear.”
As it turned out, the cat was surrendered to the shelter by a senior going off to a nursing home, who can no longer care for the cat. The Carver Scott Humane Society, where Zoey is currently staying at, made the following observation and statement about the cat and the stuffed bear:
Are we obsessed with Zoey and his bear? Yes. Yes we are.
And we have a feeling you will be too.
Zoey was surrendered to our partner with a simple note: “Don’t take away Zoey’s Bear.” Sure enough, when the two were briefly separated (it needed a little dust-off), Zoey was visibly stressed in his condo. The moment his bear was returned, he melted back into himself. Since then, he’s rarely out of paw’s reach, often curled up and cuddling.
We may not know much about Zoey’s past, but we do know this: he was loved. Sometimes life leads people to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender a pet, even when that love is very real. We don’t take lightly the responsibility of finding Zoey his next home, one that will cherish him just as much, bear and all. 💙
Now we need your help. Such a loyal sidekick deserves their own name. What should we call Zoey’s bear? Drop your best ideas in the comments! 🐻✨
