An interesting political comic regarding the tariffs US president Trump announced recently:
Keep in mind this is from China’s official state news outlet, but it’s interesting to see how the US appears in the eyes of other nations right now. While tariffs have proven to make smaller nations like Colombia or Vietnam capitulate, I’m personally doubtful regarding their effects on nations like Russia or China.
When tariffs were implemented heavily in the US back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, they did manage to protect and grow our local manufacturing base, but also massively raised price of everyday goods for normal citizens. In this day and age, when we don’t even really have a manufacturing base anymore, it will be quite educational to see what good comes out of them. The next couple of years in the US will be interesting times, indeed.
