Dog Helps Solve Owner’s Murder Case

In early 2023, the remains of a human body, burned beyond recognition, was found in Texas. Also at the scene was a white dog who barked frantically at the arriving police officers. Curiously, the dog would evade capture from humans, but would at the same time refuse to leave the general area. A day later, even when the body has been removed from the area, the dog was still found sitting in the area, forlorn.

Titan, along with the prosecutors and investigator who handled Mandy’s case.

The dog was then captured by the local animal control. As it turned out, the dog, named Titan, was microchipped. Through the information on the microchip, the police also learned that Titan belonged to a 26 year old young woman by the name of Mandy Rose Reynolds. A search at Reynolds’ home revealed that it was been ransacked, and even her car was missing.

The police searched through the license plate reader database, and was able to find the missing car on the roads in the state of Kansas. Different police agencies cooperated across state lines, and after a very dramatic high speed chase, eventually captured the person driving the car of the murdered young woman; Sadly, it was her cousin, a 29 year old man by the name of Derek Daigneault.

Upon further investigation it was found that Mandy Rose Reynolds’ murder and the subsequent theft of her valuables & vehicle was indeed committed by her cousin Derek. Derek Daigneault has since been found guilty in a jury trial and sentenced to life in prison. A sad tale, but the dog, in his own way, has helped with the police investigation and helped his former owner acquire some modicum of justice after her unfortunate murder.
